Space rockets, make-up, roller coasters…
Driverless cars, skyscrapers and life-saving medical equipment…
Engineers make things work. Then they make things work better.
Engineers put the bubbles in bubble bath, they make sure planes don’t crash, they give athletes the best chance of winning and they keep us in touch with each other 24/7.
Everywhere we look there is engineering
Who makes sure aeroplanes stay in the sky? Engineers. Who enables wild animals to be tracked? Engineers. Who gets those chocolates tasting just right? Engineers. And who makes them egg-shaped at Easter? Engineers.
Engineering is not all about oily overalls (although there can definitely be some of that involved). The latest technology enables engineers to come up with the ideas of the future and solve the problems of the modern world.
Both WMG academies (Coventry and Solihull) have top-of-the-range Computer-Aided Design (CAD) suites and an array of 3D printers, as well as state-of-the-art engineering halls to rival those of real workplaces.
Skills gap
Engineers are in short supply, and because of that they command higher than average salaries – always a draw when deciding on a career!
So next time you look around, look at the world through the eyes of an engineer and see if you can come up with ways to make it better. You could be an engineer of the future.
