WMG Academy Coventry is celebrating its best ever A-level maths and BTEC engineering results.
The academy achieved a rate of 81% A*-C in maths A-level and 96% Merit or above in BTEC engineering.
Of all A-level maths students, 58% achieved at least a grade B, with 75% of further maths students attaining A*-B.
In engineering, 100% of students passed, with 91% achieving at least one Distinction and 78% achieving at least three Distinctions. A third of all engineering passes were at the highest possible grade, Distinction*.
Matt Brady, Principal of WMG Academy Coventry, said: “We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results and extremely proud of all our students who have worked incredibly hard for two years to achieve such high standards.
“This year’s post-16 results show that we are succeeding in the most challenging academic subjects as well as the career-focussed technical subjects, all of which see our students securing highly sought places at top universities and positions within national and global companies.
“These results are down to the commitment and determination of our sixth formers and all the staff involved in their development. Our supportive parents and industry partners have provided further support to students to ensure they’ve hit the mark.”
WMG Academy’s sixth form currently tops the 2019 Coventry performance tables, positioned at number one according to the Government’s main measure, ‘Progress Score’, and also number one non-fee-paying school based on the percentage of students achieving a minimum of AAB at A-level. The academy is also the only sixth form in Coventry to be rated ‘well above average’, a rating achieved by only 5% of schools in England.
Students at the academy in Mitchell Avenue have secured apprenticeships with companies including Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Jaguar Land Rover, with others heading off to universities including Warwick, Nottingham and Bath.
WMG Academy for Young Engineers provides GCSE, A-level and BTEC education for 14 to 19-year-olds. It opened in 2014 and specialises in science, technology, engineering and maths.
