Aston Martin have generously lent us their display prototype for their Rapide E car. It’s “half a car”, being partially exposed to show the construction design, components and materials used to electrify the original V8 powered Aston Martin Rapide.
The team of four engineers presented the car in an assembly to Year 10, after chatting with students in the academy during lunchtime. It was exciting to meet the Aston Martin staff who had designed and worked directly on this electrification project and hear them talk about the challenges of working with batteries instead of petrol and the unforeseen obstacles that stood in the way of bringing a concept car like this to reality.
We will have future visits from the Aston Martin team, where they will work with smaller groups to have a greater depth of insight into the engineering components, project management skills and future developments on the horizon for the next generation of young engineers.
