This year, football teams at WMG Academy were reinstated in years 10 and 11 to give students an opportunity to represent the academy in sport. Teams were entered in 2 cup competitions, for each year group, the West Midlands cup and the English Schools Cup. Both teams have now unfortunately been knocked out of all competitions, however all have enjoyed representing the academy and have had a very positive experience!
The greatest success came from year 11 in the West Midlands cup, winning 1-0 in round 1, 4-1 in round 2 and then unfortunately losing 3-1 in their round 3 match.
The improvement in the year 11 team has been fantastic, taking a group of good individual players and becoming a team has been great to see! Hopefully we can continue the team as they move into year 12!
We look forward to more success from our teams in the cup competitions in the next academic year.
