WMG Academy Coventry Celebrates Outstanding Student Success
We are celebrating another year of outstanding destinations for all students in Year 13.
WMG Academy Chief Executive, Stewart Tait, commented, “I am delighted that students at the WMG Academies have had their commitment and endeavours rewarded with impressive examination results that will allow them to progress to the next stage of their journey, be that University, Apprenticeships or direct employment. Whilst it is always pleasing to report year on year improvements in results, this year has seen a significant increase in the highest grades gained in A Levels (A*-B) and in Technical Qualifications at Distinction * and Distinction. In our areas of specialism, over a third of students achieved the very highest grades. Once again, there is a very impressive range of destinations that have been secured by Year 13 students that they and their Teachers and parents should be rightly proud of.”
Further highlights of this year’s fantastic student results and destinations include:
- Over 69% of the whole cohort achieved grades between A* and C and / or Distinction* and Merit
- 41% of A Level students gained A* to B
- 70% of our Year 13 have secured places at university and 8 students are heading off to start Degree Apprenticeships
- 6 students achieved the highest possible grade of Distinction* in the Cambridge Technical in Engineering
- Maya and Joshua achieved a very impressive D*D*D* in BTEC Triple Science; this is the equivalent to three A* grades and 75% of the cohort received Distinctions.
- 5 students secured Distinction* in BTEC Triple Engineering along with an additional 4 students gaining Distinctions.
- 40% of students were awarded Distinction and Distinction* in Cambridge Technical in Business
- Dawid was our highest achieving student achieving Distinction*, A*, A, A in Engineering, Maths, Physics and Further Maths and is heading off to the University of Warwick to study Maths and Statistics.
- The following students exceeded expectations by securing grades in all subjects well above their targets: Maya K; Dawid G; Winona C; Amneet B; Joshua M and Joshua G.
- 21% of the students taking Maths A Level achieved A* – A.
NB: D and D* grades refer to Distinction and Distinction* grades available on Engineering and Science BTEC qualifications. D* is equivalent to A* and D is equivalent to A.
Principal, Fiesal Mahroof said, “We are extremely proud of all our students! They have demonstrated resilience and maturity throughout. We have once again this year seen increasing numbers of students pursuing higher education at prestigious universities in their chosen STEM subject. It is also pleasing to see a good number of students securing highly sought after Degree Apprenticeships, from both large and medium sized companies.
WMG Academy for Young Engineers is proud to be partnered with a large number of national and international employer partners who work with students to develop their employability skills, which is evident in the fantastic destinations that many students have secured.”
WMG Academy for Young Engineers provides GCSE, A-level and BTEC education for 14 to 19-year-olds. It opened in 2014 and specialises in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The Academy is proud to offer learners between the ages of 14 and 19 a unique educational pathway, blending vocational learning, employability skills, academic teaching, business partners and technical expertise to create the engineers, computer scientists and scientists of the future.
