Thirteen students (nine Year 10’s and four Year 12’s) recently participated in the annual Man Group Design & Make Challenge. This marked our third consecutive year joining this prestigious event, which attracts schools with students from Year 10 to Year 13. The challenge is designed to test students’ abilities to work in teams to design and build a device for a specific task, with the details kept top secret until the day of the competition.
This year’s challenge required the creation of a grab capable of lifting a 23kg steel square tube measuring 150mm x 150mm x 1000mm. The students had just a few hours to design, build, and test their device before competing against other schools. We entered three teams, and although we narrowly missed out on a win, the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They valued the opportunity to work collaboratively and exercise their creativity on a project that was entirely their own.
Our school is incredibly proud of what our students achieved and how they represented us, demonstrating WMG’s capabilities to the other competitors. We look forward to taking a new cohort to next year’s challenge.
